KP SWIM – SWIMMING FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Swimming burns a lot of calories and so can help you  lose weight as well as tone up your muscles. As it gives such a good all over body work out it means your heart and lungs must work very hard so it’s great for your cardiovascular system too.

If you’re overweight swimming is probably the best exercise you can do since the buoyancy in the water means that this exercise is low impact and has little risk of injury.

Mixing up your pace when you swim is better than just sticking to one slow speed. Increasing the pace makes you breathe a little heavier and that means your body is working a little harder. If you keep up this routine your heart, lungs and muscles will get stronger and you’ll be able to swim for longer before you get tired.

Using equipment such as a pull buoy or kick board means you work specific parts of your body harder and it will help tone specfic muscles.

A lot of people notice that swimming makes you hungry so if you’re trying to lose weight make sure you take a healthy snack with you to eat after your session.

You may not realise how much you’re sweating during a workout so it’s really important you have a drink bottle at the end of your lane to sip little and often.

KP SWIM – USING THE POOL TO TONE YOUR BODY

There are lots of skills, drills & exercises you can do in the pool to tone up your body and you don’t even have to be a strong swimmer to reap the rewards

Mixing swimming with exercises in the water will give you an excellent all round body work out so don’t be afraid to use different pieces of equipment so that you can pick the areas of your body you really want to work on

To tone up your arms and get rid of ‘bingo wings’ you need to put the emphasis on working your upper body.   Use a pull buoy to keep your legs from moving and try wearing paddles or Speedo Aqua Gloves to add resistance and make the work out a little tougher.

If you’re not a strong swimmer or want to try something different then use Speedo Hydro Discs or Speedo Aqua Dumbbells for low impact resistance. There are various exercises you can do in the pool with them and you get great results

If you want to tone your bum &/or legs you need to isolate and work that area by using a kick board. If you feel like you’re not moving very fast or want to make it tougher then try a pair of fins. Alternatively use an Speedo Aqua Belt for some aqua jogging

Most importantly remember you don’t have to be an elite swimmer to get a toned body in the pool. It doesn’t have to take hours and hours of swimming up a down a lane, you just need to do the exercises well and put in a bit of effort
